It’s hard to feel thankful when your heart is hurting. When you’re grieving, disappointed, or facing something you never saw coming, being told to “just be grateful” can feel like the air has been sucked out of the room.
Valarie speaks gently to anyone who is still trying to get through the day. Gratitude doesn’t mean your pain isn’t real. The Hebrew word todah reminds us that thanksgiving isn’t reserved for the moments when everything is going well, and prayer lets us bring our pain into God’s presence instead of hiding it. We may not be able to thank Him for our circumstances, but we can thank Him for His nearness. Today’s prayer asks God to meet us in our sorrow, hear the prayers we can’t find words for, and carry us through this season.
Scripture anchor: Psalm 34:18, “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
