We fill every moment with noise — music, scrolling, something playing in the background. Stillness feels uncomfortable, almost unproductive, because somewhere along the way we forgot how to simply be with God.
In today’s prayer, Valarie talks honestly about how much busier life gets as the years go by, and why sitting still rarely feels conducive when there’s so much to do. She returns to the prophet Elijah — God didn’t speak in the earthquake or the fire, but in the still, quiet voice — and reminds us that the volume of life will always rise, so we have to be intentional about turning it down. Anchored in Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God,” she prays for stillness to become a place of intimacy instead of discomfort, for racing thoughts to be quieted, and for the reminder that we don’t have to earn His love — we simply need to stay close to Him.
